Tutu's Fund for the Future

"Tutu's Fund for the Future" is a fantastic project which was started by Tutu Melaku to help orphaned children in Ethiopia go to school and develop their potential alongside other children who have more stable homes.

Tutu was born and grew up in Addis Ababa. She was one of a large and happy family, living outside the city in a pleasant house where cooking was a real family enthusiasm. In 1992, Tutu brought her cooking skills to the UK where she founded the award-winning "Tutu's Ethiopian Table" restaurant in Reading.

Together with Link Ethiopia, Tutu has established her Fund for the Future as a way to raise much needed funds and get them to the children most in need. While general donations are always greatly accepted, the focus for the project is to sponsor young orphans, who are at the greatest risk of dropping out of school, to enable them to get a full education.

Tutu's Ethiopian Table restaurant is sponsoring the first group of orphan children, all thanks to her wonderful customers! But there are many more children we want to support. Can you help? It costs just £12 per month which provides both educational kit and resources for your sponsored child as well as funding larger projects within their school which benefit hundreds of other children as well.

Maritu’s Story

Maritu is bright. But her future isn’t.

Every day, Maritu walks for two hours to attend school. She works hard and want

s to become a teacher so that she can help her community.

But Maritu does not know how much longer she will be able to attend school. Rising food and living costs mean her family are facing a stark choice: putting food on the table or sending Maritu to school.

Without an education, Maritu will have few choices. She may end up working for little pay in bad conditions, in early marriage, or worse. Without an education, Maritu won’t have a chance to improve her life and the lives of those in her community.
