Child Sponsorship update
42 sponsors changing 42 lives
Our Child Sponsorship scheme is the newest of all our activities. In the relatively short period it's been running we have been thrilled that so many generous individuals and families have come forward to support the most vulnerable children we work with in Ethiopia. These children are almost all without one or both parents. It was previously a huge struggle for them to afford the very basics for school life, and they were seriously at risk of dropping out of education because of this.
Through sponsorship these children are provided with everything they need to succeed at school: uniform, bag, books, stationary and anything else they require. Sponsorship ensures they stay in school and can make the most of their education. Not only that, but sponsorship also benefits the wider community as well by supporting vital infrastructure projects such as classrooms, toilets, clean running water and libraries. So by sponsoring one individual, your donations also help hundreds of other children too!
We want to say a huge thank you to the 42 individuals and families in the UK, the USA, France, Germany, Spain and Australia who sponsor children in our partner schools. New Sponsorship Manager in Ethiopia
We are really pleased to announce the appointment of Firew Tilahun as our new Sponsorship Manager in Ethiopia.
Firew set up our southern office in Bishoftu (Debre Zeit) about sixteen months ago and has been expertly steering and coordinating our activities within a dozen schools in Addis Ababa, Bishoftu, Adama (Nazret) and Asella since then.
He will continue to manage the southern office, alongside a new coordinator assistant whom we are currently recruiting, but will focus much of his attention to the countrywide coordination of our child sponsorship activities as we seek to expand the scheme.
So there's never been a better time to start sponsoring! With Firew's careful management you'll be receiving more frequent news about your sponsored child and how your sponsorship is helping both them and the hundreds of other pupils in their school.
Tutu's Fund for the Future
Our thanks go to our great friend and supporter, Tutu Melaku, who is using her business proceeds to sponsor lots of children in Ethiopia.
Tutu was born and grew up in Addis Ababa. She was one of a large and happy family, living outside the city in a pleasant house where cooking was a real family enthusiasm. In 1992, Tutu brought her cooking skills to the UK where she founded the award-winning "Tutu's Ethiopian Table" restaurant in Reading.
Together we have established "Tutu's Fund for the Future" which will be supporting orphan children in various schools, all thanks to her restaurant and her customers.

Sponsoring a child through Link Ethiopia is simple. It costs just £3 per week (£12 / $25 / 17€ per month) to support the education of your sponsored child and the school which they attend. On average 20% of your sponsorship money is spent on your child’s educational needs and 80% on supporting projects in their school to benefit your child and hundreds of other children as well.
